 		   SO THAT’S WHAT A GOOD FATHER LOOKS LIKE
  6/21/09    Gen 22:1-14

Truth: A good father is a father of faith. He teaches his children that God test us so we will grow spiritually. He teaches His children to stand on the promises of God, and that we can depend on God’s provisions. A good father gives us a picture of our heavenly father. Can you see God’s character in the fathers of our church?
A GOOD FATHER TEACHES US:

  1. GOD WILL TEST OUR FAITH Gen 22:1-2
    1. The school of faith requires some test. 1 Peter 4:12
    2. There is a difference between trials and temptations
    3. God wants to “promote us” in the “School of Faith”
  2. TO FOCUS ON GOD’S PROMISES Gen 22:3-5
    1. We live by promises, not by explanations
    2. Abraham believed God and obeyed Him when he did not know where (Heb. 11:8), when he did not know when (11:9-10, 13-16), when he did not know how (11:11-12), and when he did not know why (11:17-19)
  3. TO DEPEND ON GOD’S PROVISION Gen 22:6-14
    1. God provides for our needs
    2. God provides for our needs on time
    3. God provides for our needs because it brings Him glory
  4. CONCLUSION: All the men of our church can be good fathers to our children as God is a Father to us
