Luke 23:39-43

Truth: There are people who live their entire lives only for themselves. They are selfish. There are people who finally see the sacrifice that was made for them. They are self-examine. There are people who lived their lives as a sacrifice for others. They are selfless. Which are you?

  1. SELFISH
    1. It is our nature to be selfish. Luke 12:19-21
    2. We all know someone who is selfish. Luke 23:39
    3. We can chose not to be selfish. Luke 9:23-27
  2. SELF-EXAMINED
    1. See that it is not about me
    2. See that I can not change myself. John 6:44
    3. See the sacrifice Christ made for me. Luke 23:42
  3. SELFLESS
    1. Christ lived a selfless life. John 6:35-40. Luke 23
    2. Christ empowers us to live selfless lives
      1. Love from God empowers us. Rom 5:5
      2. Love for others empowers them. John 13:34-35
    3. We all know selfless people
      1. Mothers, fathers, grandparents, aunts, uncles, preachers, deacons, Sunday school teachers, teachers, coaches, soldiers, policemen, firemen, nurses, etc…
      2. Selfless people love God first, others second, and themselves last. But they do care for themselves
  4. CONCLUSION: If we live our lives for ourselves we will be empty. If we examine ourselves we will see our need for God’s sacrifice. If we live our lives for others it will be because God’s love has changed us forever
